General Rules and Regulations |
||
| 1. | A
contestant may participate in one Leadership and one Skill contest,
provided there is no conflict in the individual's schedule. (AT
NATIONALS A CONTESTANT MAY ONLY PARTICIPATE IN ONE CONTEST). See the
Students page for more information. |
|
| 2. | Each
contest must have six or more contestants in order for the contest to be
held. Exceptions are made the committee and state director. |
|
| 3. | The
judges are not obligated to award medallions or announce a first,
second and/or third place winner, if in their opinion, the performances
are below acceptable standards. |
|
| 4. |
Official SkillsUSA dress
is NOT required for state competition; however, appropriate
apparel is necessary. Appropriate dress shall be defined as the normal
apparel used in the particular occupation. Safety glasses, work shoes*,
and hard hats are a MUST if called for in the Skills USA
Championships Technical Standards or Arizona Contest Rules and
Regulations. |
|
| 5. |
The decision of the
judges will be final. The SkillsUSA Arizona Director will make all
final interpretations of contest rules. |
|
| 6. |
The rules are subject to
revision each spring following the SkillsUSA Arizona Championships
conference. The SkillsUSA Arizona Board of Directors will be
responsible for all changes. |
|
| 7. | These rules supersede all rules established for the National SkillsUSA Championships. SkillsUSA Arizona makes all reasonable attempts to provide contests that are similar to national contests but is not governed by any National SkillsUSA rules or regulations with respect to contest operation or technical committee decisions. The SkillsUSA Arizona Director makes the final decision on all rules, interpretation of rules and suggestions for improvement with regard to the SkillsUSA Arizona Championships. | |
| 8. | The technical committee can disqualify a student or team for any of the following: | |
| A. | Missing team member (unless the technical standards for that specific contest indicate that there is a range of team members that is acceptable). | |
| B. | Unsafe equipment or missing equipment that is necessary for the contest. | |
| C. | Unsafe use of equipment and/or endangering others. | |
| D. | Advisors helping students. Advisors are expected to not speak or use hand gestures to assist students in competitions. | |
| E. | Cheating of any type. This includes sending a team to the contest that is missing a team member. You must notify the judges upon arrival if your team member is missing. | |
| 9. | Substitutions are allowed in the same contest IF approved by both the State Office and the Technical Committee. Substitutions are submitted prior to the conference to the State Office. | |
| 10. |
SkillsUSA Arizona will make every attempt to verify that all registered contestants are members of national SkillsUSA. However, in the event that a student win’s first place and he or she is not a member, the second place contestant will attend the national conference representing Arizona. This decision is final. |
|
| 11. |
In order to decrease the number of "no show"
students in leadership contests the following new policy will apply: If a student is registered for both a leadership contest and a skill contest, failure to attend the leadership contest will result in a 10% point of the contestants skill contest score. In order to avoid the 10% point deduction, please do one of the following: A. Withdraw the student by Friday, April 18 from the contest by contacting Dee Bjelke at 602.542.3290 or dee.bjelke@azed.gov. B. Notifying the SkillsUSA office by Friday, April 18 of a substitute by contacting Dee Bjelke at 602.542.3290 or dee.bjelke@azed.gov. |
